ABOUT ACNE
FACE FITNESS
Help your body fight acne by giving it what it needs to stay strong and healthy. Follow these simple daily rules and you may find everyone sees your good health reflected on your face!
Nourish
There is no miracle diet to clear acne, but a balanced diet can help your skin fight acne. While most foods don't contribute to breakouts, recent studies show dairy and some shellfish may.
In general, choose fresh, unprocessed foods from all four groups and drink at least eight glasses of water every day, or more when you exercise.
Cleanse
To maintain clear skin, stick to a daily acne fighting skin care routine. Gently wash your face twice a day to remove excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. Avoid over washing, which dries out your skin and causes it to produce even more oil.
Protect
While small amounts of sun exposure may seem to clear acne at first, sunbathing actually dries your skin, causing it to produce more oil and dead cells: the ideal environment for blemishes. Avoid excess sun exposure and wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen every day, even if it's cloudy.
Rest
A good night's sleep (7-8 hours) can do wonders for your complexion and immune system, which helps fight infection to clear acne more quickly.
Exercise
Your skin benefits from an increase in blood flow and blood oxygen level achieved by exercise. If you are prone to body acne, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing when exercising.
Prevent
Women love to wear makeup and look beautiful, and the doctors are no exception. Proactiv’s unique 3-step system clears the skin, which is key for any type of foundation because the single biggest determinate of good looking makeup is a clear, smooth canvas on which to apply it. Also, if you have acne-prone skin, keep in mind many makeup products can clog pores actually making a bad problem worse. Be sure to use oil-free and non-comedogenic makeup, such as Proactiv's popular Sheer Finish line.
Relax
When you become tense, sweat glands in your face tend to produce more oil. It's important to take time every day to relax—read a book, take a bath, practice yoga, or do whatever makes you feel happy and calm.
