ABOUT ACNE
ACNE AT ANY AGE
When most of us think of acne, we think of teenage acne. Many teenagers experience acne at some point during their teenage years, but acne strikes adults, too. To put this in perspective, more than half of all adult women and about a quarter of adult men suffer from adult acne. This means the total population of adults with acne in the US exceeds the total teenage population!
Lingering Problems with Lasting Effects
The psychological, social and physical effects of adult acne are just as serious as the effects of teenage acne. For example, skin loses collagen with age, so it's much harder for it to bounce back after tissue damage. As a result, adult onset acne is more likely to result in permanent acne scarring.
Awareness Creates a Change of Face
As the world becomes more comfortable discussing and dealing with health issues like adult onset acne, more people are learning to be proactive and are also seeking treatment. It was the severity and ineffectiveness of many of these treatments that led our two Stanford-trained dermatologists to create Proactiv. Their goal was to address the root causes of acne problems with new, science-based at-home treatments, including a full range of pharmaceutical-grade, medicated skincare products that are effective, gentle and easy-to-use.
